I listened to the last True Talk yesterday and I was a bit disturbed by your lack of acceptance [knowledge] of the fact that honor killing is in fact endemic of Muslim communities worldwide. Honor killings do not have comparison with "passion crimes, rapes or murders." Why? First of all, women are killed in many instances by either their father, husband, brother or other family member. Second, honor killings are not individual cases, but cases involving whole families who are guilty of sanctioning such murders in the name of family honor. These acts are not isolated, coincidental events of "primitive cultures" but also an urban phenomena not only in "Muslim" nations but also in Europe the problem is rampant among Muslim ghettos/communties.
Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan do sanction honor killings through lenient interpretations of the law. In Africa recently laws are being introduced to stop honor killings. The fact that several organizations like WHO, UN and other NGOs dedicate energy to prevent such killings is in fact proof of its rampant existence.
Ahmed Bedier I urge you to address the fact that Muslims in the name of religion, and culture perform honor killings. It does not matter what the Koran says, it is in fact what PEOPLE DO in the name of religion that should preoccupy you.
You readily accepted the "good" aspects of the PEW survey but had to dismiss and quell the disturbing news about how 1 in 4 young Muslims (about 2.35 million Muslims in America) often or sometimes supported suicide bombings. 5% of American Muslims support Al Qaeda, more thatn 100,000 people.....that is alot of support for a murdering bunch of extremists!!!!
Ahmed you choose your information, and let people who support your views ramble on without question of where their information is from. People who criticize Islam, and the actions of Muslims, you interrupt them, dismiss them and ask for proof of what they are saying. The last woman in the last program did not refer to statistics but what she says is confirmed in the links I have attached in this email.
Ahmed you do a disservice by not accepting critique of your faith, your culture (your culture includes all Muslims, since you readily demonstrate defense for Islam and Muslims). If you are to accept all the good commited in the name of Islam you must also accept and hold a culture responsible for the atrocities committed in the name of Islam.
You dismiss Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Irshad Manji and others for not submitting tp the Koran, they offer reform especially for the case of women. Instead you claim them to take part in a right wing conspiracy against Islam.
I hope that your show will one day address that Islam needs to adopt new Islamic teachings that disallow the killing of apostates, forbids polygamy, honor killing, abuse, FGM, that a female's testimony is as good as a mans and stop the raping of female war prisoners under Sharia law (Darfur), that women may dress and marry who they please. That women should be allowed to live according to the principles of their choice.

Regarding Al Qaeda, why do you leave out that Osama Ben Laden was once a CIA asset. THe United States recruited and trained Muslims to fight its proxy war against the Russians, in Afghanistan. The defeat of the Russians facilitated the collapse of the Soviet Union making the UNited States the number one super power of the world; meanwhile, Afghanistan was left in ruins and millions had died.
WHat abot the fact that the UNited States helped Saddam into power and supported him, strategically and financially, when he was committing his worst atrocties? Now the Iraqi people are paying the price of U.S. foreign policy.
I know that you don't like to hear this, but there are many human rights activists (many of them women, gasp!) who live in Muslim countries who are working on improving human rights for their people. THey have it tougher than those living in the West because not only do they have to fight their own governments, they have to fight hypocritical countries like the UNited States. THe United States preaches human rights and democracy, but it engages in regime change and supports brutal dictators and kings who do its biddings.
I will not deny American involvement in supporting Osama bin Laden. However my post does not discuss American foreign policy but the self righteousness of these two radio hosts in discussing all issues that concern Islam, muslims, terrorism, Israel etc as something only linked to how America acts in this world.
You talked about the difficulties facing women in Arab countries who fight for human rights...well ofcourse they exist. I do not mind this at all. I had hoped that Muslim Talk would talk about such issues that Muslim women are fighting for: freedom of choice.
